Glyncoch product Ceri Sweeney first joined up with Pontypridd in 1998 providing competition for the no10 shirt with the likes of Neil Jenkins and Nicky Little. Being mentored by such greats proved beneficial as Sweeney developed into a top class playmaker in his own right.

Having been capped by Wales at Youth and under 21 levels, Sweeney made his senior international bow in 2003 as a replacement against Italy. He went on to win 35 caps for his country, scoring 88 points.

As Welsh Rugby went 'regional' Ceri Sweeney represented the Celtic Warriors and then the Gwent Dragons and Cardiff Blues. In 2013 he crossed the border to England to join Exeter Chiefs as they gained Premiership status. His role with Exeter was not only as a senior player but also to nurture younger talent such as England Saxons outside half Henry Slade.

Aged thirty-five Ceri Sweeney made a homecoming to rejoin Pontypridd in preparation for the 2015 - 2016 campaign, resuming a club career that had already seen him make 92 appearances and scoring 325 points.

Ceri is employed as a director of a fire and electrical company.
