Pontypridd Youth finished their season off in style with a tournament win at the Trimsaran Sevens on Saturday 27th May.

Preparations had gone well all week with a strong squad selected to contest the tournament, with a mixture of core players and some youngsters given an opportunity to impress.

Twenty-four teams from around Wales assembled at Trimsaran for a day of Sevens Rugby . Ponty Youth progressed through group stages with impressive victories by 35pts to 0 against Bridgend Sports and 20pts to 0 against Aberdare B. This set up a second tie against local rivals Beddau, which turned out to be a full blooded encounter with Pontypridd running out as 20pts to 10 winners.

Next up was another Mid District team in the form of Aberdare in the semi-final. Ponty Youth totally dominated this encounter, demonstrating control and structure beyond their years, to set up a final decider against Merthyr.

Ponty got off to a slow start and conceding a ten point deficit, before claiming a crucial try back just before half time. Given an opportunity to re-group during the ihterval, Ponty Youth resumed with two quick tries to take the lead, their captain Zac Byard pulling the strings to see the game out as 15pts to 10 victors. During the cup presentation Pontypridd's Morgan Burgess was named as Player of the Tournament

The Sevens success was an excellent way for Pontypridd Youth to round off their season, the entire squad showing great effort, commitment and energy levels during a long but successful day.
