Amongst the crowd that witnessed a thrilling cup victory for Pontypridd over Newport on Saturday 18th February were three long distance travellers all the way from Scranton, Pennsylvania, USA.

Bert James is a well known Ponty fanatic, acclaimed on social media as 'pontydragon', who has made previous visits "over the pond" to watch his favourite team play.

The current visit was a different and far more significant one as Bert brought with him his son Morgan and daughter Nicole. Always proud of their Welsh ancestry, traceable back to Mountain Ash in the Cynon Valley, the James's were on a mission to connect with their roots.

An exhausting week-long itinerary took in the Wales v England international, sight-seeing across South Wales, a visit to a tattoo parlour, two birthday parties, one of which was for Bert himself, and culminating in the cup win over Newport at the House of Pain.

A warm welcome awaited the James family and many old friends were reunited. As Bert, Morgan and Nicole return to Scranton they do so with the best wishes of all the extended Ponty RFC family that they can call their own.
